Asya Zahia Colie is a mixed media artist who grew up in the south of France and lives in Asheville, NC, with her husband and her son.

Creativity has been a part of her life since childhood.  Long drawn to sketching, she worked in fashion before turning to fine art in her forties—a calling that turned her into the person she was meant to be. Many things influence her work, and she is constantly seeking new ideas & styles.

The colors of summer in Provence – fresh, lush, and passionate – are what seduce and fill her palette. Her years in the fashion industry gave her an interest in multiple themes: the feminine ideal, the expression of beauty in the faces of countless women, and the ephemeral passage of youth.

Colie continues to divide her life between Provence and her home in Asheville, which has allowed for poetic contrasts, not to mention elegant harmonies, among her subjects and landscapes.

“Living in the Blue Ridge Mountains is the perfect complement to my country life in France.”

Using acrylic and mixed techniques on canvases that are sometimes dinged and patched, Asya uses multiple processes to express her interest in the transformations that surround her. Her distinct, bold style merges the abstract with the representational.
